Hiiii.
It’s been a minute, and I am both sorry and not sorry for that.
Sorry
Sorry, because woah — I actually can’t express how much I cherish this little newsletter community that has steadily grown over the years. Some of you have been here since 2017, which, if you have, you know that I’m basically allergic to consistency when it comes to any of my creative endeavors. It’s not reflective of my appreciation that you’re there and excited and ready to take in whatever I do next. It’s a me thing. You’re my people and I promise to get better with consistency.
And to those recently joining, I’m still just as excited when I see a “new subscriber” email pop up in my inbox. I won’t waste your attention. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
Not sorry
And not sorry, because woah — life has been crazy. Figuring out what homeostasis looks since 2020 has not been my jam. Between freelancing and full-time gigs, I’ve worked with about 10 companies in less than 2 years. I made some of the largest investments/purchases a person can make — we’re talking new dog, house, car, etc.
I’m happy and overwhelmed — that’s the best way to sum it up. It’s like I’m watching my dream life happen, but forgetting to experience it.
Then, the perfect weekend
I can’t tell you how much I needed this weekend. I couldn’t have even told me, but while I was in it, I realized it.
Friday was an outdoor dinner with my person and a best friend.
Saturday was a comfy morning with breakfast sandwiches and a couch fort, then a read-in-the-backyard/vacuzzi-cuz-its-finally-not-100-degrees afternoon.
Then, I realized the Ducks were playing the Kings in LA, and while I’m not a diehard Ducks hockey fan, I am a diehard “go to a game and act like a diehard fan” — and so we did. I got the nicest seats available because fun, and we cheered our little hearts out. Ducks won, and I’m pretty sure it’s because Cam and I both wore ducks gear.
After the game, our uber dropped us off right by our neighbors and a few of them were in their front yard, all cozy drinking by the fire. They asked us to come join them and when I say we were excited… we were THRILLED. We ran home to let the dogs out and literally squealed because we felt so adult, going to our neighbors for wine. We stayed until 1am. It was perfect.
Sunday was equally fun. We took the dogs to the park, worked and read, then picked up our ultimate dinner at Crossroads before getting in the hot tub to have wine and watch tennis.
It was literally perfect. I’m super thankful.
And you?
And that’s it. Back to work and things for the week before going to Palm Springs for the weekend. For the first time in a minute, I’m feeling grounded and present. It’s lovely.
How was your weekend? Care to share a highlight in the comments? I read and reply to everything, and I love when you guys to respond to each other. It’s cute.
Talk soon.
Your friend,
Taryn

Hiiiii, thanks for this fun update, that really does look like a great weekend! My weekend was so good too!! I have been recovering from a pretty bad gut virus the past weeks with very low energy levels (got food poisoning on holiday), but this weekend I finally felt human again 😁 I even went for a run and lemme tell ya... that's my happy place. Became a runner during the first months of the pandemic and it has been a huuuuge stress outlet for me. It brings me an indescribable amount of joy to be out running in the woods. So when I went running this weekend, I had a massive dopamine rush and overwhelming feeling of "yes, I've got my health back!". It made me realise how incredibly important good health is and how grateful I am to have it.
The rest of the weekend I have pretty much just been cuddling my 1yr old niece. She's my little sunshine and we're besties.
Hope you're feeling healthy too! Have a great week!
Love from Amsterdam,
Irene
Hey hey Taryn, I’m part of the pretty recent followers, but I really like your honest and raw texts! I just wanted to share a little something, I’m French and am from the south west of France, really close to the Pyrenees. I just finished my bachelor and found a great internship in the communication of a feminist organisation in Paris (Paris!!). I’m here for 6months, and as much as I love the city life and all the adventures I have here, I struggle to find inner peace as I wish I could visit my family and cats on weekends or more often. Trains are terribly expensive and I only have weekends free, so I don’t think it’s worth it. I just wanted to share this little inner struggle I have right now, between my pure joy of being in Paris in a dream internship, but missing family and quarantine “life” when everything was slower.
Ah! I guess it’s a balance.
Anyways, have a nice week :)
