another week, another 3 thoughts to think about.
one. music is the cutest human invention
i think we’re too close to music to understand just how cute it is. like grown ass adults turn speakers on (or really little speakers made to fit inside your ears hahaha) and we play little poems with background noises written by other people. and we dance a little and bop our heads and try to learn the words.
and then if we really like the music, we go to work and earn money and save that money and use that money to buy a little permission slip that lets us enter a building with that stranger so we can see that stranger sing us their poems. and you and some other strangers fill up a dive bar or arena or big grassy field to go and sing at AND with the person who is singing back at you. and they’re up there, another full ass adult, singing you songs and you’re taking pictures of them and screaming at the top of your lungs and texting your friends blurry photos of you at this thing where you’re wearing a shirt that says the name of the person that’s standing in front of you. singing at you.
CUTE. music is CUTE.
two. nike owes epictetus money
i get asked pretty frequently how to start writing. or start working out. start waking up early or going to therapy or journaling or . . .
the only answer i have, i learned from a guy who dies in 135 AD.
“if you wish to be a writer, write.” -epictetus
said another way: just do it.
the only way to have a habit is to have the habit. the only way to be a _______ [writer, person who wakes up early, person who works on themself] is to ________ [write, wake up early, work on yourself].
