I have a question for the group. If you follow me on instagram, you’ve already seen it.
But if you don’t,
ouch

I very randomly and very thankfully get asked how people can support my writing stuff (beyond sharing and engaging) which really, really means a lot to me.
I’ve been doing my newsletter for 5 years (holy shit taryn don’t spin into oblivion thinking about how fast time goes) and a few thousand subscribers in, I’m so happy it means something to anyone. It obviously means a lot to me but beyond that means the world. It might not seem like it but with my regular life things, it takes a lot of time and energy, and if I want to go back to doing it at least weekly, I want to give it even more attention.
To do that, a lot of the newsletter community recommends doing a paid version, so I’m considering! The main newsletter (the daily taryn — not daily now but my god it used to be) would stay free — I want that to be free for whoever wants to read it — but I’m considering doing a paid weekly Friday edition where I give recs of things I liked this week. Quotes, shows, articles, etc., and I’d make that one paid for anyone who wants to support my stuff on behalf of the people who can’t afford it.
On substack (my newsletter software thing), I would set up a monthly payment for anyone that wants to become a “premium member” or whatever I end up calling it. You’d get the regular free weekly newsletter and the extra one every week as well.
a penny for your thoughts
Here’s where I need your help, and please be honest.
Would you respond to this (feel free to reply to it like you would an email, or a public comment if you’re a bad ass bitch) and tell me what you’d feel comfy paying for that every month?
One way to think of it is that you’d basically be buying me one of these things every month, to keep my fueled as I write for you :)
$3 - a cheap coffee
$5 - an LA coffee
$7 - a cheap drink
$10 - an LA drink
$more? no. i don’t feel comfy doing that lol
Regardless of if you’re 0% interested or already responding with your dollar amount, thank you. Thanks for considering and much more for reading anything I write.
Truly actually means the world. And who knows — with more regular support, I might be able to write things and make things full-time someday.
A girl can, and will, dream.
Talk soon, and thanks x1000 for your response.
your friend,
taryn
Hi, Taryn -
Thanks putting yourself out there and asking this question. I have to say that, sadly, I would continue with the free version alone because (1) I love your writing and wouldn't want to lose touch with you; (2) I'm an aspiring-to-actually-be-published writer and spend my spare change on submission fees; and (3) I'm really old - 75 this year - and don't have a lot of spare change lying around.
I'm trying to remedy #3 with Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JulieMeansKane), so I will be interested to know what your readers think. Please let us know.
Lots of hugs,
Julie
Hi.
I live in a different country. If I have to specify it, South Korea lol. I got to know you after watching the cammie YouTube video and followed your Instagram. As I kept watching, I fell in love with your humor, humanity, and inspiration. It's really good to read what you wrote. It's so fun to get to know about you, taryn.
There are so many different people in the world. I thought I shouldn't live stuck in a narrow view. Thank you for always(?umm..maybe? lol) positive, pleasant, and inspiring me.
Well, I saw other people's comments, and I think it'll be okay if it's that much. I'll be your fan from afar. My English is a bit awkward? Please understand that. (Laughs)
it's Papago..! lol
